ECONOMIC DEVELOPENT: What is going on with Economic Development and Opportunity in West Louisville and beyond? Are we doing the right things, do our leaders understand the issues and opportunities, what are we missing, what do we really need, what would you most like to see accomplished? HOW DO YOU FEEL? Please help start the conversation by sharing your strongest feelings from your heart, or from your gut.
West Louisville recently lost two major economic projects worth over $65 million that were slated to create 400 jobs for the most economically depressed area of the city. Both projects were canceled amid significant protest from community residents. Do we really understand why the Food Port and Walmart projects failed? Was the community truly engaged or did the developers move forward without community support?
As a community, we must begin to take control of our destiny and begin real conversations around our most pressing issues and find viable solutions. An inspiring principle at Louisville's New Legacy Reentry Corporation is: those who live the problem own the solution. We are not helpless victims and our political representatives work for us. We must begin to hold them and ourselves accountable to improving the West Louisville Community. Let’s start the conversation in West Louisville by listening to each other and collaborating, building consensus on how we must change our community by creating clear plans for our future. It is our duty!!
